14. What if minimum qualifications for a college teacher included a certification of teaching proficiency rather than just being a scholastic qualification it currently is?

Today, teaching in a college does not need the candidate to be certified in “teaching”, unlike School Education where teachers need to have a diploma or degree in Education.

As a result, new teachers go straight from a Masters or PhD degree into teaching without any appreciation of Andragogy or instructional design. This is perhaps a most overlooked factor in determining quality in our Higher Education system.

What if we added certification in adult education and education technology as a pre-requisite for teaching in a college at an under-graduate level?
