In a rote learning environment, students end up virtually learning to the test, bounded by certain kinds of questions and ‘approved’ or closely scoped answers. Instead, what if part of the student’s evaluation consisted on evaluating the quality of questions that she would come up with?
This would specifically need teachers to equip students with the art of questioning? As a result, they will learn to discover concepts from a variety of perspectives. They will also learn to extend using “What-if” exploratory questions, make connections to other concepts and so on.
The questions then would also prompt a round of ‘answering’, which could again be collaborative in nature. Perhaps ‘best’ questions could be awarded and ‘no questions are too silly’ could be reinforced as a principle?

That is how we should be using evaluation. This is the way to ensure that we are not helping create followers but thinkers and creators
